Chicago events: Building Solidarity with the Syrian Revolution

Saturday, July 6, 2019

4:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Rally on Michigan Ave. at Congress Plaza Garden, east side of Michigan at Ida B. Wells Drive, just south of art museum.
5:30 PM – 7:00 PM
Forum, discussion and get-together at 228 South Wabash Avenue #230

We will begin with a street rally on Michigan Avenue to raise awareness about the struggle of the Syrian people against the genocidal Assad regime. We follow up with a public forum and discussion led by activists from the US and Italian efforts to build an international solidarity movement, with presentations by Fred Mecklenburg (News and Letters Committees), David Turpin Sr. (Anti-War Committees in Solidarity with the Struggles for Self-Determination), and Mary Rizzo (veteran Palestine and Syrian Revolution solidarity activist, with a first-hand report from Italy). We finish the evening with Syrian artist Etab Hrieb, who will talk about her personal experiences and present some of her work, wrapping up our learning experience with time to chat, and enjoy good company and refreshments.
