Evanston, Ill.—A lively group protested outside the AT&T store in downtown Evanston on Nov. 16, demanding the corporation end its contracts with ICE and other parts of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Protesters denounced the violent brutality that ICE and the Border Patrol (CBP) have inflicted on Chicagoland, and accused AT&T of complicity in these human rights violations.

A speaker said, “ICE, CBP, and other agencies in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) rely so much on corporations like AT&T. AT&T has over $100 million in contracts with DHS. We want them to cancel the contracts until ICE and CBP stop their brutal campaign. AT&T is profiting off the reign of terror. They also supported that big ugly bill, which is threatening the healthcare of millions of people and access to food, all to give tax breaks to the wealthy.”

People in the crowd spontaneously interjected “That ain’t right!” when the speaker described the ongoing abuses. Many passing drivers honked in support, with one stopping to roll down her window and yell, “Thank you for doing this, everybody!”
